Today, on 7 February, Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc had a meeting with H.E. Atis Lots, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Moldova. The main subject of the discussion was the consolidation of bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, culture and research, as well as the organization of the Latvia’s Minister of Culture official visit, during 28 February – 2 March.
During the meeting, Minister Monica Babuc expressed her gratitude to Latvia which, together with Lithuania and Estonia, was among the first countries that recognized the independence of the Republic of Moldova. Officials discussed about the Latvian experience in the process of European Integration, the funding projects for education, culture and research, as well as the ways to attract investments in these fields, to develop the educational system, creative industries, cinematography; to digitize the cultural heritage; to ensure the academic mobility etc.
Monica Babuc mentioned that the Latvia's experience in the process of decentralization and of European Integration is a model for Republic of Moldova. The official requested the Latvian expertise in applying to educational projects, in developing creative hubs, in exchanging experience and in training managers of educational, cultural and research institutions.
H.E. Atis Lots expressed thanks for the organization of the Latvian National Costume Exhibition in September last year, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and for facilitating the participation of Moldovan students and researchers to the Scholarship Program in Latvia.
At the same time, Monica Babuc reiterated the invitation to the Latvian Minister of Culture, Dace Melbarde, to visit the Republic of Moldova during the International Music Festival ,,Martisor”, with the purpose of intensifying the bilateral relations.
